ABOUT ALYSSA
Alyssa earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Louisiana State University in 2013 and spent the first seven years of her career practicing in the New Orleans area, where she began specializing in the treatment of athletes and active individuals. Early on, she set a goal of working with elite and professional athletes and developed a passion for helping people perform at their highest level.
She discovered CrossFit in 2014 and was instantly hooked on the way that it pushed her to her physical limits while also providing a community of supportive and like-minded people; something she had not experienced since her days on the track team at the University of Michigan. She began to question whether the methodology learned in PT school could be partnered with that of CrossFit in order to provide more meaningful and long lasting outcomes for patients. She quickly found herself incorporating some of the CrossFit training concepts into treatment plans for patients. She became convinced that the traditional physical therapy model was severely underestimating what patients were truly capable of and the magnitude of the influence that we as healthcare providers can have on their lives. Little did she know that CrossFit would continue to play a pivotal role in both her personal life and career path. After tearing her ACL in 2015, it was the CrossFit gym and community that helped carry her through recovery and reinforced a belief in the power of the fitness community.
In order to better serve patients, she became dual board-certified in Orthopedic Physical Therapy and Sports Physical Therapy, which ultimately became the catalyst for her move to Breckenridge in 2017. While leaving my family and friends and moving across the country to a place where she knew no one was scary, it gave her the opportunity to travel and work with the U.S. Olympic Snowboard Team, while living in a place that fulfilled a need for a life full of outdoor activities. Almost 9 years later, she has been able to pass on the skills and knowledge to the next generation of PTs through mentorship and serving as adjunct faculty in the DPT program at Colorado Mesa University.
Along the way, she found CrossFit Breckenridge and along with it, a mountain fitness community. She earned her CrossFit Level 1 Instructor certification and began coaching in 2022, later adding her CrossFit Weightlifting Certification. Becoming a coach felt like the most logical way to combine her physical therapy knowledge and skills with a love of CrossFit. As a fitness-forward physical therapist, she believe that she is uniquely positioned to guide clients not only from injured back to functional, but all the way down the continuum of wellness to fit and thriving.
Whether she is seeing someone on post-op day 1 or coaching them to a new snatch PR, Alyssa is committed to helping humans become the strongest, fittest, most resilient versions of themselves.
